Does BMI Measure Fat?

No. BMI measures excess weight rather than excess body fat. However, for most adults, BMI is highly correlated with total body fat. It is a vital preliminary screening tool for health risks related to chronic heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure in Western populations.

Wait, I am a Bodybuilder?

If you have high muscle mass (athletes/powerlifters), your BMI may fall into the "Overweight" category even if your body fat is low. In this case, doctors recommend measuring Waist-to-Hip Ratio or skinfold thickness for a more accurate health picture.
